This role will be responsible for reviewing and verifying merchants’ Know Your Business (KYB) documentation and payee Know Your Customer (KYC) compliance. The ideal candidate will have experience in financial underwriting, with strong knowledge of KYB, KYC, and AML (Anti-Money Laundering) standards. Startup experience is preferred, payments experience is highly valuable, and crypto experience is a plus.
- Conduct thorough reviews and assessments of KYB documentation for new merchant applications to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
- Perform background checks on merchants, verifying business registrations, ownership structures, and ultimate beneficial owners (UBOs).
- Identify and assess potential risk factors associated with merchant applications based on business type, location, and transaction volume.
- Review and verify KYC documents from payees, including identity verification, proof of address, and other key compliance information.
- Ensure that all KYC documentation complies with relevant regulations, including AML standards.
- Check applicants against sanctions lists, politically exposed persons (PEP) databases, and other watchlists.
- Assess financial and reputational risks tied to merchants and payees based on the information provided.
- Make informed decisions regarding approval or escalation of applications based on identified risks.
- Collaborate with legal and compliance teams to handle complex cases and resolve potential compliance issues.
- Assist with continuous monitoring of active merchants and payees to detect and address any emerging risk factors.
- Conduct periodic reviews of KYB/KYC files to ensure ongoing compliance.
- Maintain accurate records of all KYB and KYC evaluations, ensuring proper documentation and record-keeping.
- Prepare and present reports on compliance findings to senior management and relevant teams.
- Work closely with the sales, legal, and compliance teams to ensure efficient and compliant onboarding of merchants and payees.
- Participate in internal training sessions on compliance and regulatory updates.
- Experience: 2-4 years of experience in underwriting, risk management, or compliance, with a focus on KYB/KYC reviews. Startup experience is preferred, payments industry experience is highly valuable, and crypto experience is a plus.
- Regulatory Knowledge: Strong understanding of KYC/KYB regulations and AML frameworks.

- Knowledge of crypto payments and their unique compliance challenges is a plus.
- Compliance Certifications: Certifications such as CAMS (Certified Anti-Money Laundering Specialist) are a bonus.
