Business Insider is hiring a video production fellow to join our Vertical Video team. This person will be responsible for pitching, producing, and editing short-form content for publishing across social platforms and the Business Insider website.

Business Insider is for people who are driven, optimistic and always looking forward. Our mission is to inspire action through thought-provoking stories. We tell our audience what they want and need to know to improve their lives and the world with storytelling that is accessible, smart, sometimes unexpected, and always helpful. Our team members embody and uphold Business Insider’s three core values: we are all one team, we are effective, and we strive to get better every day.

The Business Insider Fellowship Program is for early career journalists who want to spend six months learning from a newsroom full of passionate, dedicated journalists. Fellows are assigned to teams and become experts in digital storytelling. They produce real work that is distributed to our audience of millions, and by the end of six months, they are prepared for the next phase of their journalism careers. This paid role requires you to work for 40 hours a week. Fellowships can be hybrid, and we expect New York-based fellows to come into our offices at least twice per week.

The Role & Team:

As a fellow on the Vertical Video team, you will work with your teammates to create short-form videos that target our audience of optimistic, driven, and forward-looking thinkers who are fascinated by business, technology, and innovation.

This role reports directly to the Vertical Video team’s managers and sits on the larger video team.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Edit down long-form episodes from across Business Insider’s shows and optimize them for vertical storytelling on Facebook Reels, Instagram, YouTube Shorts, and TikTok.
  • Source and pitch episodes from our slate of published YouTube shows that can be trimmed into standalone, short-form stories.
  • Pitch, develop, and edit original short-form videos that cater to an audience interested in business, technology, and innovation.
  • Source and interview subjects for original stories, coordinate field shoots, and create shot lists, outlines, and scripts before editing.

The ideal candidate has:

  • A passion for storytelling through video
  • Strong, demonstrable skills in Adobe Premiere
  • Previous experience with writing and content creation—school publications are great!
  • An interest in vertical video and a familiarity with digital and social media
  • A commitment to accuracy, fact-checking, and an understanding of objective reporting
  • The ability to hop on the phone or email sources when researching or reporting a story
  • Proficiency in Illustrator, After Effects, or other Adobe software is a plus
  • A background or interest in business and economics is not required but is a bonus

Additionally, all of our editorial fellows should have:

  • Voracious reading habits
  • Familiarity with digital and social media
  • The ability to work quickly and collaboratively with a fast-paced team
  • Proofreading and copyediting skills
  • A love of Business Insider and our mission to serve readers with the information and inspiration they need in a way that’s accurate, fair, fast, and fun

Salary & Benefits:

  • $20 per hour (overtime when needed and approved)
  • PTO and paid holidays
  • Eligible for medical, dental, and vision benefits on the 91st day of employment

Please apply with a resume and cover letter and specify why you're interested in working on this team. If you’d like some tips, check out our best practices guide.
