Responsible for developing and executing a national Personal Lines Product and Underwriting strategy through functional areas including Field and Staff Product, Field and Staff Underwriting, Product Development and Innovation, and Project & Program Delivery.
Provides profit-oriented underwriting thought leadership, prioritization and direction to the Personal Lines organization: Stays abreast of market cycles, trends and future developments in the PL market and underwriting to guide highest level leadership decisions and strategy development.
Provides most critical and complex underwriting performance data analytics and business insights solutions to deliver on Personal Lines profitability goals: Ultimately responsible for ensuring Personal Lines is most effectively leveraging data, analytics and insights, procedures and rules automation as an integrated part of strategic underwriting risk decisioning.
Builds and delivers product expertise and business processes across the Personal Lines organization: Build strong internal processes for effective product management to ensure the required compliance with state and industry regulatory entities and necessary speed to compete.
Strengthens underwriting outcomes via effective collaboration and leading by influence with supporting functions across the value chain. Including but not limited to Technology, Operations, Actuarial, Finance, Reserving, Reinsurance, Audit, Compliance, Legal, Risk Management, Claims and Sales functions and works to develop and/or strengthen interdepartmental relationships to support more robust decision making to realize plans and expected outcomes in underwriting.
Oversees executive and associate management functions. Including performance management, salary planning and administration, assessing and development of talent to ensure associates are appropriately skilled for future business state model, hiring and placement, and ensuring a strong performance driven culture.
Contributes as an active member of the PL Cabinet and a model senior leader for all P&C Associates to drive mindset, process and delivery transformation. Further establishes essential relationships with executives across enterprise and P&C to achieve effective and aligned decision making on risk aggregation, reinsurance strategy and planning.
May perform other responsibilities as assigned.
Reporting Relationships:Reports to President, Personal Lines
Education: Undergraduate degree required in Business, Finance, Insurance, Economics, Statistics, or related field; graduate degree preferred.
License/Certification/Designation:CPCU strongly preferred.
Experience:20+ Years of business underwriting, regulatory, analytics, profitability management is preferred.
Knowledge, Abilities and Skills:Expert knowledge of P&C insurance underwriting (Personal Lines Automobile and Property Preferred), risk and regulatory environment. Technical underwriting, product, and insurance carrier value chain expertise. Advanced analytics, modeling, and data fluency.
Strategic agility and vision management. Executive presence, communication, and command. Strong written and verbal communication, negotiation, influencing and interpersonal skills. Exercise independent judgment and effectively make sound business decisions. Creatively resolve unique and challenging business problems. Proven ability to lead large complex, multidimensional programs/initiatives.
Other criteria, including leadership skills, competencies and experiences may take precedence.
