About this role

The Federal Engineering Manager leads, directs and manages engineering teams to develop technical solutions, incorporating new technologies and improving processes to deliver best in class energy projects and solutions across our diverse portfolio of federal customers. They have thorough and strong understanding of a wide range of technology and technical solutions, development processes of ESPC and UESC contracts and federal customer expectations, requirements and standards. They possess the communication and business skills necessary to work across all disciplines between the sales, engineering, project development and construction management at a team and senior management level. They are responsible for quality control and review of technical development deliverables. They possess active leadership skills, professionalism as well as a strong technical background with excellent communication and technical writing skills.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead and manage a team of energy engineers to develop Federal Energy Savings Performance Contracts (ESPC) and Utility Energy Service Contracts (UESC) for federal customers
  • Ensure that engineers’ efforts are focused on the right activities based on project and ECM priority and viability and that the level of effort is proper based on project impact, complexity and development stage.
  • Support team members’ generation of project development budgets, schedules and plans of action.
  • Ensure that the right interfaces and actions are both planned and implemented between the Senior Project Engineer/analysis group and other groups including project development, lighting and water solutions, M&V, construction, design, commissioning, and operations and maintenance.
  • Ensure engineering support of Construction and M&V during implementation and performance phases of ESPCs and UESCs for scope modifications that result in changes to energy and cost savings.
  • Work with engineering team to improve processes, increase capabilities and drive innovation to support project growth and new offerings and solutions.
  • Develop and maintain standards (M&Ps) for the engineering/analysis functions and activities. Standardize analysis tools for enhanced consistency and accuracy of calculations and evaluations across projects, and to streamline peer and management reviews.
  • Development and training of existing and new hires. Mentoring and coaching of team members for success and career growth.
  • Actively produce labor forecasting for both individual reports and project team members.
  • Represent engineering team on senior management meetings and project reviews.
  • Work cross functionally at peer level and above to improve interaction and processes with other functions throughout project lifecycle.
  • Represent NORESCO at industry events, official meetings and interviews. Cultivate and maintain customer relationships with similar function and peer level.
  • Work with Sales leadership to support prospecting new and existing clients, on-site meetings, sales presentations, customer interviews and competitive proposals.
  • Develops and executes critical tactical and operational plans which have significant impact to the achievement of results. Communicates with senior leadership within the group regarding matters of strategic importance to the organization.
  • Travel up to 40%

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor's degree in an Engineering discipline
  • 10+ years relevant experience relevant experience in the Energy or Sustainability Services industry
  • 3+ years managing Engineering teams
  • 5+ years experience with Federal ESPC and/or UESC contracts

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA, PE, and CEM are not required, but are considered a plus
  • Degree in Mechanical, Electrical, Industrial, or Chemical Engineering disciplines
  • Strong leadership and management skillset and proven track record of success.
  • Proven track record developing large complex technical solutions and projects
  • Strong organizational, technical writing and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong facilitation, team building, cross-functional collaboration, organization and complex problem-solving skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word, and Excel
