About This Role

As the Federal Engineering Operations Leader at NORESCO, you will provide operational oversight of technical development activities and lead operational improvements within the Federal Energy Engineering team and cross-functionally with a focus on sales support. You will have a great deal of interaction with customers as well as other NORESCO leadership and departments, including Engineering, Sales, Project Development, Project Structuring & Financing, Design, Construction, Measurement and Verification (M&V), and Operations and Maintenance (O&M).

The ideal candidate must have a thorough understanding of a wide range of technology and technical solutions, development processes of ESPC and UESC contracts and federal customer expectations, requirements and standards. Possess the communication and business skills necessary to work across all disciplines between the sales, engineering, project development and construction management at a team and senior management level. Must be a skilled professional with a track record of effective leadership, strong communication and technical writing skills and a genuine interest in new and emerging technologies.

Key Responsibilities

  • Lead operational oversight of the Federal engineering team during the project lifecycle and leverage internal and cross functional resources to improve processes, procedures and interaction across company disciplines.
  • Work with Sales leadership to support prospecting new and existing clients, on-site meetings, sales presentations, customer interviews and competitive proposals. Lead process improvements for the Federal Energy Engineering team’s support of sales and opportunity capture.
  • Cultivate new, and maintain existing, customer relationships to identify and drive new opportunities in coordination with sales organization.
  • Lead the Federal Energy Engineering team to improve processes, increase capabilities and drive innovation to support business growth and new offerings and solutions.
  • Lead peer-level change management activities to improve interaction and processes with other functions throughout project lifecycle. Represent engineering team at senior management meetings.
  • Develop and maintain standard methods and procedures (M&Ps) for the energy engineering/analysis functions and activities. Standardize analysis tools for enhanced consistency and accuracy of calculations and evaluations across projects, and to streamline peer and management reviews.
  • Facilitate cross-department collaboration with MUSH and Commercial teams to identify, develop, or improve best practices and tools
  • Develop and train existing team members and new hires. Mentor and coach team members for success and career growth.
  • Drive innovation to support new offerings and solutions. Identify and quantify energy conservation opportunities associated with a variety of technologies and solutions. Lead review and vetting processes for new technologies and solutions.
  • Travel up to 40%

Required Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s in an Engineering, Science or Technical discipline
  • 10+ years relevant experience in the Energy or Sustainability Services industry
  • 5+ years experience with Federal ESPC and/or UESC contracts
  • 3+ years leading Engineering Operations and/or Operational improvements

Preferred Qualifications

  • MBA, PE, and CEM are not required, but are considered a plus
  • Degree in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Chemical Engineering, Industrial Engineering, or Architectural Engineering
  • Experience managing engineering teams
  • Proven track record analyzing complex technical solutions and developing large projects
  • Experience with geothermal heat pumps, PV, battery energy storage, CHP, microgrids, fuel cells, and wind generation technologies is a distinct plus
  • Strong organizational, technical writing and verbal communication skills with a high level of attention to detail
  • Strong facilitation, team building, and cross-functional collaboration skills
  • Proficiency in MS Office including Word, PowerPoint and Excel
