About this role
The Field Safety Specialist is responsible for providing planning and oversight of Environmental Health & Safety (EHS) policies and programs to ensure compliance with applicable local laws and regulations and corporate standards across the regional business units. The functional purpose is to support Carrier’s mission by creating business value through sustainable EHS solutions. This position is remote for someone in Colorado or in the Western US region. National traveling up to 50% is required.
This role will report to the North American EHS Leader.
Key Responsibilities
- Execute initiatives, programs, procedures, reports, permits and trainings across multiple EH&S disciplines, to achieve and maintain compliance
- Monitor local performance against EH&S regulatory requirements to achieve and maintain conformance
- Support business partners' facilities and employee practices to achieve and maintain understanding and compliance with EH&S regulations
- Contribute to required environmental regulatory reports and submissions to achieve and maintain standard documentation
- Assist and develop materials for EH&S training and communications on subjects required by regulations such as confined space, respiratory protection, compressed gases, electrical safety, ergonomics, etc. to achieve and maintain that procedures are understood and applied
- Provide support for contract negotiation/creation to the team to achieve and maintain safety and compliance to regulations
- Ensure contractors and subcontractors have implemented an effective safety process by conducting pre-qualifications and by visiting/auditing job sites on a regular basis
- Participate on business teams to assist in the development of safety policies and procedures, projects, campaigns, committees, as well as corporate compliance audits
- Provide information, metrics and programs to customers for customer-required contractor qualifications
- Coach/mentor all employees, including leadership, on safe work practices, hazard identification and risk management
- Direct risk assessments and recommend control measures for all potential areas of concern
- Visit job sites on a regular basis to ensure effective implementation of EHS processes and programs
- Identify existing or potential risks and hazards and ensure that recommended corrective or preventative measures are completed in a timely manner
- Provide support for other Company teams as needed and directed, including North America and Enterprise EHS support
Basic Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree
- 3+ years of practical environmental health and safety management experience at a medium-large site or field/construction location
Preferred Qualifications
Other qualifications you may have that would be beneficial in this role include:
- Bachelor’s degree in Environmental Safety and Health
- Energy Service Company (ESCO) experience i.e. energy solutions including designs and implementation of energy savings projects, retrofitting, energy conservation, energy infrastructure outsourcing, power generation, energy supply, or risk management.
- Recognized Certification in Environmental, Safety or Health, Risk Management i.e. CIH, CSP
- Self-starter with experience leading the safety management function; lead, motivate, engage and influence others
- Work in office settings, construction sites, rooftops, warehouses, or manufacturing plants
- Manage multiple sites/remotely as well as a dispersed workforce
- MS Office applications (Outlook, Excel, and Word) and EHS data management system i.e. Enablon
- Interpersonal and communication skills including written and verbal in English
- Innovative approach to improve processes and solve problems
- Time management in a fast-paced environment with changing circumstances, direction and strategy
- Detail-oriented, organizational skills, and ability to work in a team environment
- Able to climb ladders and stairs, work at heights and perform duties in hot and cold environments
