Job Description:
The Technical Editor/Graphic Designer supports a federal agency’s internal and external communication workflows and the production and posting of federal reports, fact sheets, and other documents. This role is crucial for ensuring accuracy, clarity and visual appeal for materials and web content. The Technical Editor/Graphic Designer ensures adherence with Section 508 accessibility standards and provides design, layout, and branding to agency publications.
Reviewing and proofreading content for grammar, punctuation, and style, ensuring accuracy, consistency, and clarity.
Ensuring terms and concepts are accurately presented and easily understood by different target audiences.
Maintaining high-level of attention to detail to ensure error-free publications.
Editing, formatting, and performing quality-checks on agency reports and documents, based upon agency branding and Section 508 accessibility guidelines.
Designing and producing high-quality graphics, illustrations, and layouts to create interactive and multimedia content for the web and social media.
Advising leadership on technical challenges, publication and accessibility issues, and best practices.
Educating and training staff on design, layout, branding, and accessibility.
Using Adobe Creative Suite and Microsoft Office to design and format agency reports, newsletters, presentations, flyers, and other published materials, including templates.
Developing infographics, banners, logos, and other custom graphics as needed.
Researching images for use in publications and on the agency website.
Preparing and checking files submitted by staff for web publishing.
Posting cleared materials to the agency website, using Drupal, and providing technical support to the Web Content Manager.
Participating in special projects as assigned.
This position is fully remote and requires a Public Trust clearance (or the ability to obtain one).
Bachelor’s degree in journalism, communications, or a related field
Extensive experience with graphic design and desktop publishing
Proficient with Adobe Creative suite applications, including InDesign, Photoshop, and Illustrator
Experience with web content management software, such as Drupal and utilizing SEO best practices
Proficient with Microsoft Office applications, including Word, PowerPoint, and Excel and web-based platforms such as SharePoint or Teams
Expertise in Section 508 remediation and in using tools to ensure compliance
Excellent written and verbal communications skills
