Research Program Manager - High Performance Compute & Memory

In this role, you will lead Natcast's research initiatives in High Performance Compute & Memory, focusing on advancing scalable in-memory computing (IMC) architectures and innovative memory solutions. You will drive cutting-edge research that pushes the boundaries of compute and memory integration, directly contributing to Natcast's mission of re-establishing U.S. leadership in semiconductor design and manufacturing.

Every day, you will collaborate with cross-functional teams of researchers, engineers, and industry partners to develop and implement novel IMC architectures, optimize memory hierarchies, and enhance compute/memory bandwidth trade-offs. Your expertise will be crucial in advancing both analog and digital IMC methods, with a focus on reliability, robustness, and thermal management.

To thrive in this role, you must possess a deep understanding of IMC architectures, memory systems, and AI accelerators, coupled with strong leadership and project management skills. You should be passionate about driving innovation in semiconductor technology and have the ability to translate complex research concepts into practical applications.

The Research Program Manager for High Performance Compute & Memory plays a pivotal role in shaping the future of computing architectures and memory systems, directly impacting the competitiveness of the U.S. semiconductor industry.

Responsibilities:

  • Lead research programs focused on scalable in-memory computing architectures, including both analog and digital IMC methods

  • Develop and implement strategies to enhance compute/memory bandwidth trade-offs

  • Drive research on new memory hierarchies, cache systems, and AI accelerators

  • Oversee the development of robust error correction, fault tolerance, or stochastic computing mechanisms for IMC systems

  • Lead initiatives in thermal management strategies for 3D memory stacks and emerging memory technologies

  • Develop and evaluate benchmark systems for thermal management

  • Collaborate with industry partners and academic institutions to advance IMC technologies

  • Manage research budgets, timelines, and deliverables

  • Present research findings to stakeholders and at industry conferences

  • Contribute to Natcast's strategic planning for future research directions in high-performance computing and memory

Required Skills and Experience:

  • Ph.D. in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering, or a related field

  • 8+ years of experience in semiconductor research, with a focus on high-performance computing and memory systems

  • Deep understanding of scalable in-memory computing architectures, including both analog and digital methods

  • Expertise in SRAM-based digital IMC for reliability and robustness

  • Strong knowledge of memory hierarchies, cache systems, and AI accelerators

  • Experience in developing error correction and fault tolerance mechanisms for computing systems

  • Proficiency in thermal management strategies for advanced memory technologies

  • Excellent project management and leadership skills

  • Strong communication and presentation abilities

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Experience in leading large-scale research projects or programs

  • Track record of publications in top-tier conferences and journals in the field

  • Familiarity with semiconductor industry trends and roadmaps

  • Experience in collaborating with industry partners and academic institutions

  • Knowledge of relevant funding mechanisms and experience in grant writing
