The Commercial, Infrastructure and New Build Housing Trading Director is responsible for driving the growth and profitability of Marshalls Landscape Products through the development and execution of a comprehensive commercial strategy. This position will oversee major specification pipeline, public realm projects, new business generation, commercial projects, and new housebuilder strategy. By leading and inspiring high-performing teams in Design & Engineering, New Business Development & Major Projects, and National Specification, the Director will deliver exceptional results and contribute significantly to the overall success of Marshalls Landscape Products.

Key Accountabilities:

  • Develop and implement a robust commercial strategy aligned with the company’s overall business objectives, focusing on major specification pipeline, public realm projects, new business generation, commercial projects, and new housebuilder strategy.
  • Build and lead high-performing teams in Design & Engineering, New Business Development & Major Projects, and National Specification. Foster a collaborative and innovative culture within the teams.
  • Identify and pursue new business opportunities within the commercial, infrastructure, and new build housing sectors. Develop and execute effective sales and marketing strategies to generate new leads and convert them into profitable projects.
  • Oversee the delivery of major specification pipeline and public realm projects, ensuring on-time, on-budget, and high-quality execution. Build strong relationships with key stakeholders and clients.
  • Drive commercial performance by optimising pricing, contract terms, and cost management. Identify and implement cost-saving initiatives.
  • Conduct thorough market analysis to identify trends, opportunities, and challenges within the commercial, infrastructure, and new build housing sectors. Develop strategies to capitalise on market trends and mitigate risks.
  • Collaborate with National Trading Director to ensure the link between demand creation, strategy specification and the commercial success of the business is fulfilled to its full potential.
  • Collaborate effectively with other departments, including marketing, product development, and operations, to achieve business objectives.
  • Encourage and support innovation within the teams to develop new products, services, and solutions that meet the evolving needs of the market.
  • Achieve financial targets for the commercial division, including revenue growth, profit margins, and return on investment.
  • Build and maintain strong relationships with customers, ensuring their needs are met and exceeded. Provide exceptional customer service.


Knowledge, skills and experience:

Essential:

  • Proven track record in leading and developing high-performing sales and commercial teams within the construction or related industry
  • Strong understanding of the commercial, infrastructure, and new build housing sectors, including market dynamics, key players, and trends
  • Experience in developing and implementing commercial strategies
  • Excellent strategic planning, analytical, and problem-solving skills
  • Strong leadership and interpersonal skills with the ability to build and maintain relationships at all levels
  • Proven ability to drive sales growth and achieve financial targets
  • Excellent communication and presentation skills
  • Strong commercial acumen and negotiation skills
  • Experience in managing large-scale projects and budgets
  • Proficiency in financial management and analysis

Desirable:

  • Industry-specific qualifications (e.g., chartered surveyor, CEng)
  • Proficiency in CRM systems or other relevant software
