Senior Machine Learning Engineer

Background

At Udio, our mission is to enable the next generation of music creators with state-of-the-art AI tools. As a machine learning engineer, you will help build and fine-tune the foundation models which power Udio. We are hiring both senior and junior machine learning engineers.

Our founding team is composed of world-leading AI experts, formerly of Google DeepMind, where they built the tech behind YouTube and DeepMind’s generative music project. Between them, our founders have 4 PhDs, degrees from Harvard, Oxford, Mila, and Edinburgh, and industry experience at DeepMind, Google, Nvidia, Dropbox, Yext, and more.

We are backed by Andreesen Horowitz, along with leading lights from tech, music, and creative arts worlds, including will.i.am, Common, Tay Keith, United Masters, and Kevin Wall, Mike Krieger (co-founder of Instagram), and Oriol Vinyals (head of Google Gemini).

Core Technical Competencies

The following competencies suggest you’ll be a good candidate for this role. You don’t need to meet all the criteria below, but the more you meet the better!

Must Haves

• Top class software-or-model-engineering abilities as demonstrated by experience, publications, and/or education
• One of:
• Familiarity with a deep learning library: Pytorch, Jax, or Tensorflow
• Data pipeline expertise
• Large scale model training experience: e.g. debugging and optimizing TPU or GPU models, model parallelism, kernel languages (CUDA/Triton/Pallas)

Nice to Haves

• Experience fine-tuning open source models, especially LLMs
• Familiarity with training on GKE
• Generative modeling expertise (especially with audio)
• Knowledge of C/C++

This role is eligible for a compensation package of base salary, equity, and benefits. The starting base salary range for this role is $150,000 - $300,000. Actual salary may vary based on level, work experience, performance, and other factors evaluated during the hiring process.
